Trip to the Mall

Malon sighed and shook her head, “You’re so blind…”

Zelda narrowed her eyes, “Would you like to clear the air for me or are you going to just keep accusing that I’m blind?”

Malon bit the inside of her right cheek, “I’m gonna wait until you notice it yourself, and then I’ll just be waiting here to tell you I told you so.”

“Considering I don’t even know what you’re talking about, I highly doubt that I’ll be coming back here for you to gloat.” Zelda stated, looking around the food court for her other friend, Midna.

The two friends sat in silence for a minute, minus the tons of people around them eating.

“You know what, I’m gonna tell you anyway.” Malon said, breaking her cool act.

“Okay, please tell me why I’m so blind.”

“Link has been staring at you from Hylia’s for a good ten minutes.”

Zelda’s eyes shot open and she looked over to the little section for Hylia’s Fast Food in the mall. Her eyes met her friend’s and he smiled and waved, ignoring the customer that was ordering. “And how does this require telling me, “I told you so,”?”

Malon laughed, “Because it’s proof that he loves you!”

Zelda rolled her eyes, but her face still turned a little red, “You and Midna need to give up on that. It’s not happening. We’re just friends.”

“Stop saying that, Zelda! He loves you and you love him-”

“Whoa,” Zelda stopped her, “Who said I loved him?”

“Who said you loved who?”

Malon turned and Zelda looked behind Malon, her face turning a little red.

Malon quickly burst into little giggles and pointed to him, “You butted into the conversation at the most perfect time…”

Link raised an eyebrow and looked to Zelda who was now redder than a tomato, “Who?”

“N-Nobody…” Zelda answered and grabbed her drink from Hylia’s and began to drink it to avoid answering the question.

“Ohhhh, by the way Link, she does love this someone we were talking about…”

Link pulled the chair out that was by Zelda and sat down, looking at Zelda carefully, “So Zellie’s in love?”

Zelda continued to drink her drink and hide her face as best she could as Malon laughed and Link watched her closely and hopefully, trying to get an answer to his question.

“Yep!”

Link looked behind him and spotted Midna standing with three bags full of clothes from Saria’s Sundresses, Ruto’s swimwear, and Lanayru Jeans.

“She’s definitely in love with someone… he loves her too, you know? But they won’t tell each other how they feel…” Midna said, sitting down in the chair between Link and Malon.

Link nodded and looked to Zelda, “He should confess soon, you know… if it’s meant to be, then he’ll confess soon enough.”

Zelda felt her drink run out and she put it down and bit her lip, looking down at her tray of trash, “How soon… do you think…?”

Midna watched Link extremely carefully as he looked down at the table, “I’m not sure…”

Malon narrowed her eyes at Link and folded her arms across her chest, “Do you have any idea who we’re talking about?”

Link looked up at her, sorrow filled his eyes. He shook his head, “Not really, no.”

Midna rolled her eyes and face palmed, “She’s in love with you, you dim-sighted moron!”

Zelda’s eyes shot up and to Midna as Link’s eyes shifted to Zelda, her face clearly red, “M-Midna!”

Link looked from Midna to Zelda and then down to the table, swallowing, “Me?”

Zelda felt her insides twist and she slid her chair back, standing up, “Excuse me just a second…” She quickly rushed off and put her right hand over her mouth in shock and horror as she took a deep breath.

“Don’t freak out… don’t freak out.” Zelda whispered to herself as she continued to take deep breaths and turned a corner to head to the women’s restroom.

“Zellie!”

Zelda didn’t turn around as she opened the door to the restroom and shut it quickly behind her, locking the door.

“Zelda! Open this door right now!”

“Go away, Midna!”

“No! Zelda, I want you to go out there and talk to Link, like, right now! He loves you, too, so there’s nothing to worry about!”

“Midna, don’t you get it! If I loved him or if he loved me, we both would work our way to the point of going out, but-”

“No! You both wouldn’t say a word! I want you to get out of there and go talk to him! If Malon and I hadn’t called you up here and told him then you two would be the only two in school that wasn’t going out with someone!”

“Not true, Midna! What if I’m not ready for a relationship!?”

“If this is about Marth, I want you out here now so I can slap some freakin sense into you!!!”

“So what if it is?”

Midna sighed and Zelda wiped a tear off her face.

“Zellie, please open the door…”

“No.” She snapped, leaning against the door.

“I’m about to go ask Link for the keys to this bathroom if you don’t open this door right now.”

Zelda closed her eyes and took a deep breath, looking at herself in the mirror. She wiped her eyes with a paper towel and fixed her hair, and then unlocked the door. Her eyes met with Midna’s and she could tell that this was one of her friend’s very rare serious moments.

“I just want you two to be happy… and you both won’t say anything…” Midna whispered, looking to the ground as she shook her head. “I just don’t get you two…”

“I just don’t want to be made a fool of in front of the guy I love… I don’t want to scare him away…”

“Scare him away? Zel, he’s crazy about you!” Midna shouted, her voice reverberating throughout the empty hall.

Zelda bit her lip as Midna backed away from the door, “Come on, Zel…”

Zelda looked in her eyes and shook her head, closing the bathroom door again.

“Zel!”

This time Zelda didn’t respond and she felt her face burn as she locked the door, sighing. She looked up at herself in the mirror and her attention went straight to her cheeks that were now flaming.

Without much thought, Zelda splashed water on her face and wet a few paper towels, cleaning up her makeup and holding the wet clumps of paper to her cheeks.

She continuously looked to the mirror and then to the sink and then back to the mirror as she desperately tried to loose the red on her face.

She looked in the mirror one last time and turned to water off, realizing that this was as normal colored as her face was gonna get.

She threw the wet paper towels into the trash and dried her hands with new ones as she took deep breaths, hoping that she could keep her composure.

It was right then that she heard a knock on the door, signaling that she needed to get out so others could use the restroom.

As much as she hated to, she unlocked the door and opened it, revealing the person who had knocked on the door a few seconds before.

“Hey, Zel…”

Zelda’s throat closed up and she took a deep breath as the realization of who was in front of her kicked her in the gut.

“Hey, Link… I-I’m sorry about what happened back there… If I embarrassed you, I’m really sorry…”

Link smiled softly and let out a small laugh, “It’s fine… I didn’t feel embarrassed at all..”

“Really?” Zelda swallowed the lump in her throat and took another deep breath.

“Yeah…” Link looked down at his boots, “I felt more relieved than I did embarrassed…”

Zelda stayed quiet and took deep breaths trying to stay calm and composed.

“Listen Zel…”

‘Oh no… here comes the rejection… take deep breaths Zelda… stay calm… Everything’s going to be fine… You’ll live…’ Zelda’s eyes darted to the floor and stayed focused on Link’s boots that slowly inched closer.

“I’ve been trying to tell you this for a long time… and I never could find the right time to do it… and I could never find the courage to do it either… I just…- I need you to look at me, Zel…”

Zelda swallowed the huge lump in her throat and met his eyes. It was so hard for her to not cry right then as his eyes pierced into hers and were clouded with so many emotions that she couldn’t tell what he was going through his mind.

He moved forward a little and his arms slid around her slim waist, holding her securely.

Zelda couldn’t hold her tears any longer as she felt his gentle arms around her waist, holding her in the most prefect way. Her eyes closed tightly and her arms swiftly wrapped around his neck as her head dropped down to lay on his chest as she sobbed.

Link was taken by surprise and shock fill his eyes as her arms locked securely around his neck. He felt her torso press against his and his eyes closed, feeling his emotions being thrown into a tornado of love and affection.

Her sobs filled his ears and he leaned his head down so that his mouth touched her ear, “What’s wrong, Zel?”

Zelda shivered at the feeling of Links breath on her ear and her sobs lessened as he gently kissed her ear twice. She slowly lifted her head and blinked the tears from her eyes as Link began to kiss her tears away.

“I… I….”

Link stopped his kisses and looked in her eyes, his forehead laying against hers, “Zel…”

Zelda shut her mouth a second and took a deep breath, her eyes glued on Link’s, “Link…”

Link’s eyes closed momentarily and then opened once more, his nose brushing hers as she moved her head slightly.

Link took his eyes off of hers for a second and leaned in close to her ear and nibbled on it, causing Zelda to shiver.

“I love you so much, Zelda…”

Zelda’s eyes filled with tears and she shivered once more, feeling her skin uncontrollably shaking as their eyes locked onto each other’s.

“I… I don’t think I heard you right, Link… Could you say it again?” Zelda managed to say as Link’s mouth formed a smirk.

Link pressed his forehead to hers and she felt his nose brush her one more, causing her to grip the back of his t-shirt even harder. Zelda closed her eyes and tried to breath as Link kissed her nose gently. As his lips left her nose, she pulled him tight to her as if she was afraid he would leave her.

“I… love… you…” Link whispered, his lips softly kissing hers as Zelda smiled, fresh, happy tears falling from her eyes. Link’s lips slowly left hers and Zelda frowned slightly, her eyes on his once more.

“Is that seriously the best you can do?”

Link raised a brow and his eyes slowly filled with confusion and worry, “Wh-what do you-”

Zelda cut him off as her lips crashed on his and kissed him deeply, releasing all her love for him in that one kiss… that one, long, long awaited kiss.

Link kissed Zelda back and smirked as he ran his fingers through her perfect, long dark blonde hair.

Zelda smiled against his lips and pulled away for a second, slightly laughing. Her eyes caught Link’s and her fingers ran through his hair, “I love you, too, Link…”

Link smiled and began kissing her again. He stroked her hair softly as Zelda moved her left hand down to Link’s chest.

Zelda ran her hand up and down on his chest, and soon she found herself sticking her hand under his shirt and feeling his built up chest.

Link deepened the kiss slightly and his arms returned to her waist, one holding her tight to him and the other stroking her back.

“Okay, it’s great that you guys are together now, but you two need to stop before you take it too far…”

The two pulled away slowly and looked toward the source of the voice.

“You guys need to remember that you are in the mall…”

Zelda pulled away from Link reluctantly and walked over to Midna, “I wouldn’t let things go to far, and you know it…”

Midna smiled deviously, “Yeah, I know, I just got tired of waiting for you guys to finish…”

Link rolled his eyes and wrapped his arms around Zelda’s waist from behind, “I don’t believe that we’re finished yet, Midna…”

Zelda looked back at him in thought and then back to Midna, “Hmm…” Zelda turned around in Link’s arms and her lips found his. Zelda slowly pulled away and looked over to an annoyed Midna, “We most definitely are not finished yet…”

Link took this as permission to kiss her again, and he caught her lips with his own, causing Zelda to smile and wave to Midna before running her hands through Link’s hair again.

Midna scowled and rolled her eyes, turning around, “Teenagers…”
